Cinema Audiences

How many suspense films were released in 2009? How many films were released altogether that year?
-In 2009 31 suspense film were released altogether that year 501 films were released.

Action , animation, and comedy account for 52% of Box Office in 2009. Why do you think these genres are so popular.

-I think these genres are so popular because they are aimed at a wider audience and appeal to a larger amount of cinema goers.Films such as Ice Age 3 or Night at the Museum 2 are aimed for adult and children to enjoy watching. These films have combined two most popular genres to create films that would be very popular.

Why do you think Thrillers account for quite a low proportion of UK Box Office takings (4% in 2009)?
-I think that thrillers account for a low proportion of UK Box Office takings because they might not appeal to as many audiences as some of the more popular film genres do.For example people would be more likely to go and see a funny and uplifting movies like the Hangover (2009), something they are more likely to enjoy.

Looking at the 'genre by gender'diagram on the teaching blog , what information can be derived about thriller audiences and gender ?
-That women are slightly more likely to watch a thriller film .

Look at the age certificate for 10 of the films featured on the teaching blog. What does this tell you about Thriller audiences.

-Majority of the thriller films featured on the teaching blog , are certified for age 15, but there were also a few certified for 18 This shows that thriller films are targeted at mostly young adults +. The film I have looked at were : The Shining-Certificate 18, The Stepfather-Age certificate 15, What Lies Beneath-certificate 15,Fatal Attraction -Age certificate 18, Enemy Of The State-Certificate 15,Se7en-Age Certificate 18,Arlington Road- Certificate 15, Panic Room-Age Certificate 15,Dead Calm- Age Certificate 15,Mesrine-Killer Instinct-Certificate 15.
